Lenten Promise

Dear Friend,

In the Spirit of Prayerful planning, we invite you and your faith community to prayerfully consider an invitation to walk along with Clean Water for the World this Lent.

In the Gospel of John, Chapter 4, Jesus reveals himself to the Samaritan woman at the well, telling her about the Living Water, so “whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.” As we prepare ourselves for the season a Lent, one often where we practice fasting and deprivation, let us consider how we come to embody Christ in our work, thoughts, and deeds.

Clean Water for the World (CWFW) prayerfully asks you to consider participating in the Lenten Promise this Lent (February 22 – April 9, 2023). For many, Lent is an opportunity to reflect inwardly, deepening our understanding and relationship with Christ our Lord. It is an opportunity to take 40 days to be intentional, to take a step closer to Christ. CWFW would like to walk with you and your faith community this Lent to deepen our walk, together.

As a symbol of deepening our Walk with the Lord, many choose an external sign or action to reflect that, such as giving up a flavored beverage. We ask you to prayerfully consider taking this a step further and donating what would have been spent on flavored beverages towards a purifier to help provide a community in El Salvador, Guatemala, or Haiti with access to clean water.

CWFW believes that access to clean water is a human right. We also believe that the work we do reflects our faith and that in providing access to clean water, although those who drink it will thirst again, we are that much closer to Kingdom come, seeing Jesus in the least of these, and, as he says in the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 25:40, “whatever you have done for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

In Service to Others,

Krista Dover, Executive Director
